This website was constructed and is managed
by two faculty members of the Department of Translation and
Interpreting Studies, Bar-Ilan University (Israel):
Professor Miriam Shlesinger, Head of Department, and Ms
Michal Schuster, a doctoral student, whose dissertation
centers on discourse patterns in doctor-patient interactions
characterized by differences of language and of culture.
We founded the website in the throes of preparing for the
May 2006 conference, "Mind the Gap – Access to Health Care
for Language Minorities". As we went about establishing a
network of ties with people who share our interest in this
area, we discovered the need for an accessible and friendly
site, where one could find materials related to access to
healthcare services for language minorities in Israel (with
ample links and references to similar services and concerns
elsewhere in the world.)
